1983年，The Police乐队发行了《Synchronicity 》专辑，主打歌《Every Breath You Take》成为了经典之作。主唱及作者Sting表示，这首歌的写作灵感源自于在牙买加度假期间，对美国里根政府发动的以“星球大战计划”为首的美苏太空军备竞赛的反感和憎恶。与此同时，斯汀本人的婚姻也遇到了麻烦，这两个因素促使他写了这首歌。
这首歌推出后风行全球，影响了世界各国流行音乐的创作方向，国内当时的玉女歌手杨林就有一首歌，明显的受到这首歌曲的「启发」。90年代的西洋乐坛，饶舌音乐逐渐成为主流，Puff Daddy 吹牛老爹也曾在一九九七年改编这首歌，成为另一首畅销单曲” I’ll be missing you “，证明好歌果然不会寂寞。

这首歌是97年Puff Diddy（吹牛老爹）写来纪念他死去的好友Notorious B.I.G（死于东西海岸说唱帮派之间的斗争），友情至上，很感人。失去挚友和左右手，Puff极度沮丧，他休息了大半年后重新投入工作，完成了B.I.G.只做了一半的专辑”Hell Up In Harlem”，并改名为”No Way Out”意为没有出路，以抒发他丧友之痛。 “I’ll Be Missing You”即来自此专辑，是Puff为了纪念B.I.G.而作的，还请B.I.G.遗孀Faith Evans作背景和声，甚是感伤。 歌词其中有提到“6人一起，买新衣服互相玩闹”，猜想应该是指的(除去The Notorious B.I.G.)，P.Diddy, Faith Evans和112的3个成员，共5人。
